The Governor of Marib, Major General Sultan Al-Arada, inspected public facilities and roads affected by rain and torrents in the city of Marib, directing the concerned authorities to do the necessary, and expedite the opening of a safe passage for citizens in the areas of Al-Rawda and Dhana in the Sarwah district, after the dam flooded for the first time from its natural spillway in the southern side.
During his inspection tour, the Governor looked into damages to the building of the General Administration of Narcotics Control and the Marib city power station, which caused by severe winds, rains and torrents. He listened to an expanded explanation on electricity and network damage, and the collapse of one of the 5 MW generators that provided electricity for the two regions of Al-Zour and Dhana in Serwah after being affected by torrents, instructing to address damage ,provide alternatives urgently, and coordinate with the relevant authorities to work and protect the power station and networks with all possible means.
He also directed the executive unit of the IDP camps management in Marib to address the conditions of the displaced people affected by the torrents, the high water level of the Marib Dam, and provide the necessary needs at the expense of the local authority.
The executive unit had indicated in its report that the high water level in the Dam Basin in Sirwah, west of Marib, had resulted in damage to the idps camps (Sawabeen, Rawda, Dhana, Hayal, and Arak).
The number of affected families in these camps amounted to 1,340, out of 4,871 displaced families in the district.
Homes and tents of 430 families were severely affected, while 1000 families were partially affected, in addition to the damage of non-food items of over 1100 families.
