Marib Governor and Vice President of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council, Major General Sultan Al-Arada, held an urgent meeting on Sunday to address the aftermath of severe storms and rains that battered the region.
The meeting, attended by the governorate's disaster emergency committee, came in response to heavy rains and strong winds that coincided with the onset of a 72-hour depression. The storms and rains resulted in four fatalities, including one caused by lightning, and injuries to ten people.
Displaced populations were particularly hard hit, with over 2,900 families losing their homes completely and thousands more suffering partial damage. Emergency shelters have been established to accommodate those affected. Al-Arada directed immediate relief efforts, including providing shelter, food, and essential supplies to displaced families.
He also ordered the rapid restoration of electricity to affected areas, particularly displacement camps. The governor emphasized the need for round-the-clock monitoring and response as the region continues to be impacted by the depression.
