Major General Sultan Al-Aradah, vice president of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), held discussions on Sunday with Patrick Simonnet, the European Union Ambassador to Yemen, and Catherine Cammon, the Ambassador of the Frence. The meeting focused on the latest political and security developments and reinforcing prospects for mutual cooperation. During the meeting, which was also attended by Louis Bueno, Deputy EU Ambassador, and Joost Molleman, Cooperation Section Advisor at the EU Mission, Maj. Gen. Al-Aradah underscored the critical importance of strengthening international and European roles in supporting Yemen’s economic reforms. He called for assistance during this sensitive phase to overcome the severe humanitarian crisis caused by the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militias. Al-Aradah warned that the escalating threats posed by the Houthi militias are no longer confined to Yemen but have expanded to target the security of international navigation and regional and global stability. He stressed that this situation necessitates urgent international action and a more effective response to deter these significant risks. The PLC VP highlighted the efforts of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to implement economic reforms aimed at improving institutional performance, enhancing state resources, and alleviating the heavy living burdens on citizens. He emphasized the need for continuous international support from European and global partners to ensure the sustainability of these reforms and maximize their positive impact. Furthermore, Al-Aradah called for a doubling of international interventions to assist Yemen in confronting the world’s most severe humanitarian crisis. He urged the partners to enhance the presence of support programs across key sectors, including services, infrastructure, relief, and sustainable development, while commending the EU's vital humanitarian and developmental role over recent years. For their part, the Ambassadors of the European Union and France affirmed their commitment to continuing work with the Yemeni government. They voiced their support for efforts aimed at achieving stability and expanding the scope of both humanitarian and developmental projects. They indicated the European Union’s readiness to strengthen the partnership to ensure Yemen’s needs are met across various sectors.
