German Ambassador Praises MASAM’s Demining Efforts During Marib Visit

German Ambassador to Yemen Thomas Schneider visited the headquarters of the MASAM Project for Landmine Clearance in Marib on Wednesday, where he was briefed on the project’s humanitarian efforts to remove landmines and explosive remnants of war across Yemen. Schneider stressed the importance of mine clearance in protecting civilians and supporting stability and development in conflict-affected areas. He described demining as a vital humanitarian mission, particularly for safeguarding women and children from the dangers posed by landmines and unexploded ordnance. According to MASAM, the ambassador expressed Germany’s support for the project’s activities and underscored the need to expand both national and international efforts to combat landmine contamination and strengthen public awareness programs. During the visit, MASAM Operations Manager in Marib, Sean Wells, briefed the ambassador and his delegation on the project’s work, displaying recovered landmines and unexploded ordnance, as well as documentation of civilian casualties and field operations carried out by demining teams. Schneider praised the achievements of MASAM’s field teams, noting their contribution to saving lives and securing large areas of land for local communities. He reaffirmed the importance of continuing demining operations to help affected communities recover and rebuild their lives.
