Marib Undersecretary, EU Head of Delegation, and Dutch Ambassador Review Conditions of IDPs and Refugees in the Governorate

Dr. Abdrabuh Miftah, Undersecretary of Marib Governorate, accompanied by Patrick Simonnet, Head of the European Union Delegation to Yemen, and Jeannette Seppen, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Yemen, visited a number of internally displaced persons (IDP) camps and migrant reception centers in the governorate, as well as several humanitarian projects and initiatives funded by the European Union and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

During the visit, Dr. Miftah and the European delegation reviewed the living conditions of displaced families, their growing humanitarian needs, and the level of services provided across various sectors. They also examined the challenges facing humanitarian response efforts amid continued displacement and the increasing burden on the governorate.

The delegation also assessed the conditions of African refugees and migrants, receiving briefings on the key humanitarian services provided at reception centers, ongoing efforts to improve their living conditions, and response mechanisms to address their needs. They were further updated on the implementation of humanitarian projects and initiatives, the results achieved in improving beneficiaries' lives, implementation mechanisms, and future plans aimed at strengthening the resilience of local communities and ensuring the sustainability of these interventions.

Dr. Miftah stressed that Marib continues to shoulder the largest share of Yemen's displacement crisis, hosting more than 61 percent of the country's internally displaced population, in addition to tens of thousands of refugees and undocumented migrants from the Horn of Africa.

He called on the European Union and all international partners to expand their humanitarian and development interventions in Marib in order to strengthen the capacity of the local authority to address current challenges and meet the growing humanitarian needs of displaced people, refugees, and host communities.

For their part, Patrick Simonnet and Jeannette Seppen expressed their understanding of the scale of the humanitarian challenges facing Marib as the governorate continues to receive displaced people and refugees.

They reaffirmed the European Union's commitment to supporting humanitarian response efforts in Marib, strengthening its partnership with the local authority, and continuing to finance humanitarian and development projects that contribute to improving the living conditions of displaced people and refugees while enhancing the quality of services provided to them.
