Vice President of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Marib, Sultan al-Aradah, met with Freya Rady, Head of ICRC Operations in Yemen, on Sunday, to discuss the International Committee of the Red Cross’s interventions and humanitarian projects in Yemen. The meeting focused on expanding these projects and strengthening the humanitarian partnership with the ICRC in the upcoming phase.
Al-Aradah commended the ICRC's vital role in Yemen, highlighting its humanitarian interventions across basic needs and its previous contributions to prisoner exchange operations. He urged the ICRC to play a greater role in achieving a comprehensive exchange of prisoners and detainees on an all-for-all basis. Al-Aradah also encouraged ICRC teams to visit detainees in Houthi prisons to assess their health and humanitarian conditions, provide necessary support, and facilitate communication with their families.
The PLC VP welcomed the ICRC's plans to expand humanitarian interventions in the liberated governorates, especially in Marib, which hosts more than 60% of Yemen’s displaced population. He stressed the importance of implementing sustainable development projects that could alleviate citizens' suffering and promote recovery.
Freya Rady expressed her appreciation for the support provided by the PLC Vice President and Governor of Marib, which has facilitated the ICRC's interventions and humanitarian efforts. She highlighted his commitment to enhancing the humanitarian partnership with the ICRC at both the governorate and national levels. Rady briefed al-Aradah on the outcomes of her meetings with several government ministers to discuss collaborations across various humanitarian issues in Yemen. She noted that her visit to Marib aimed to review, evaluate, and explore the expansion of ICRC projects and interventions according to the priorities of the local authorities.
