Major General Sultan Al-Aradah, Vice President of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Marib, met on Thursday with the UN Special Envoy’s Military Adviser Brigadier General Antony Hayward to discuss the ongoing Houthi escalation and its implications for regional security and the UN peace process.
During the meeting, Al-Aradah emphasized the Yemeni leadership's unwavering commitment to supporting UN efforts and international initiatives aimed at achieving a comprehensive and just peace in Yemen. However, he expressed deep concern over the Houthi militia's escalating military actions, economic warfare, and attempts to undermine Yemeni identity and values.
He stressed the importance of the international community and the UN reevaluating their position on the Houthi terrorist militias, which now represent a direct threat to regional and global peace and security, jeopardize maritime navigation in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea, disrupt global trade routes, and hinder the movement of ships through one of the world's most critical maritime passages, all while advancing Iranian agendas. He called for decisive action to curtail the militia's destabilizing activities and to dry up its sources of support.
Al-Aradah urged the international community to provide critical support to the legitimate Yemeni government to restore the state, enforce law and order, and alleviate the severe humanitarian crisis caused by the Houthi militia.
UN Advisor Hayward reaffirmed the international community's commitment to supporting the peace process and mitigating the humanitarian situation in Yemen. He reiterated the UN's dedication to providing necessary support to the legitimate Yemeni government and engaging with all parties to achieve a lasting peace.
