Major General Sultan Al-Aradah, Vice President of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Marib, met today with the United Kingdom's Ambassador to Yemen, Abda Sharif, to discuss the latest developments in Yemen and ongoing peace efforts.
The meeting also explored avenues to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. During the meeting, Al-Aradah provided an update on the current political, economic, and humanitarian situation in Yemen, highlighting the challenges faced by the Yemeni people. He emphasized the urgent need for a comprehensive and sustainable peace solution that addresses the root causes of the conflict and meets the aspirations of all Yemenis.
Al-Aradah expressed deep concern over Iran's continued destabilization of Yemen through its support for the Houthi militia. He highlighted the Iranian regime's provision of weapons and military technology to the Houthis, enabling their ongoing aggression and exacerbating the humanitarian crisis. He underscored the Houthis' escalation of hostilities in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea, including their attacks on commercial vessels, which pose a serious threat to maritime navigation and global trade.
VP Al-Aradah warned that such actions not only undermine the peace process in Yemen but also jeopardize regional and international security. Al-Aradah stressed the importance of any regional or international peace initiatives adhering to the established framework for resolving the Yemeni crisis, which includes the Gulf Cooperation Council Initiative and its implementation mechanism, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference, and UN Security Council Resolution 2216.
For her part, the UK Ambassador Abda Sharif reiterated her country's unwavering commitment to supporting peaceful solutions in Yemen, highlighting the UK's ongoing efforts to engage with all relevant parties to facilitate the peace process and contribute to the restoration of security and stability throughout the country. Ambassador Sharif also commended the Presidential Leadership Council for its dedication to advancing peace and enhancing stability across Yemen.
