PLC VP Al-Aradah Discusses Security, Peace, and National Economy with U.S. Ambassador

Major General Sultan al-Aradah, vice president of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council, met today with U.S. Ambassador to Yemen Steven Fagin to discuss the latest national developments and ways to strengthen bilateral relations. The meeting focused on key issues of security, peace, and support for the national economy.

The two officials reviewed political and military developments, as well as UN peace efforts, which are being undermined by the Houthi militia’s intransigence and ongoing military escalation. Al-Aradah reaffirmed the commitment of the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government to a sustainable peace based on the three core references, describing it as the only way to end the suffering of Yemenis.

Al-Aradah stated that the continuous attacks by the Iran-backed Houthi militia are not only targeting Yemen but also threatening regional security and global trade routes in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. He called for a firmer stance from the international community to pressure the militia to halt its "terrorist attacks." He also highlighted the economic challenges facing Yemen, noting that the continued halt of oil exports has deprived the state of its main resources, negatively impacting the budget and public services.

Al-Aradah called on the international community, led by the United States, to increase support for the Yemeni government, strengthen official institutions, and fund recovery programs to enhance economic and humanitarian stability. He also noted that the Houthi militia's practices, including the siege of cities and the looting of aid, have worsened the humanitarian crisis for millions of Yemenis.

For his part, Ambassador Fagin reaffirmed the U.S.'s supportive stance toward the Presidential Leadership Council and the government. He reiterated his country's commitment to backing peace efforts, enhancing bilateral cooperation, and providing necessary aid to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.
