PLC VP Al-Aradah Reaffirms Support for UN Efforts to Advance Detainee Release Agreement

Vice President of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) and Marib Governor Sultan Al-Aradah met on Tuesday with a delegation from the Office of the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, headed by Political Affairs Officer Radwa Mohamed Nour El-Din, at the start of the team’s visit to Marib Governorate.

The visit forms part of the UNs’ efforts to support the implementation of arrangements for the release and reception of detainees under the Detainee Release Agreement.

The UN delegation briefed Al-Aradah on its field program, which includes a series of technical meetings and site visits to support implementation of detainee release and reception procedures, in line with the outcomes of the Tenth Supervisory Committee Meeting on the Detainee Release Agreement.

 

Al-Aradah welcomed the UN team and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing all necessary support to ensure the success of the mission. He said the local authorities would provide the required security, logistical, and administrative facilitation to enable the delegation to carry out its field program according to schedule.

He stressed that Yemen’s political leadership, headed by Presidential Leadership Council President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, remains committed to supporting UN-led humanitarian initiatives, particularly those related to detainees, describing the issue as both a humanitarian and national priority that could help ease the suffering of affected families and advance broader humanitarian efforts.

Al-Aradah also underscored the importance of continued coordination between the government and the UN on humanitarian issues, commending the Office of the UN Special Envoy for its role in advancing humanitarian agreements, particularly those concerning the exchange and release of detainees.

For her part, Radwa Mohamed Nour El-Din expressed the UN Envoy’s Office’s appreciation for Al-Aradah’s continued cooperation and the facilitation provided to support the team’s mission. She said the visit to Marib is intended to follow up on the implementation of understandings related to the detainees file and strengthen coordination with relevant authorities in support of ongoing UN humanitarian efforts and the implementation of agreed measures.

The meeting was attended by Hadi Haij, head of the government’s negotiating delegation on prisoners and detainees, and delegation member Hassan Al-Qubaisi.
