Seminar on the human rights situation in Marib during 2018

The human rights office in Marib governorate organized on Sunday a seminar on the human rights situation in the governorate during
2018 and the efforts exerted by the local authority and judicial institutions to improve the human rights situation and strengthen the operating mechanisms of civil society organizations in the governorate.

The deputy governor of Marib Abdullah al-Bakri said the province has become a safe haven for all Yemeni people who have been displaced by the Houthi coup militia, mentioning the progress Marib has made in the field of human rights.


He reviewed the efforts made by the local authority through its service and executive bodies to improve the human rights situation in the province based on its commitments to local and international laws and covenants.

During the seminar, three papers were presented. The the first one, presented by the president of the Court of Appeal in Marib Judge Areef Abdulghani Saif ,was about the relationship between the judicial and security services and the role of the local authority in enhancing coordination between them.

“Marib is almost the only liberated province where the judiciary power is fully exercised by courts and prosecutions “, the Judge Areef said.

“The Prosecution exercises its oversight role regarding enforcement of judicial orders”.

He stated a number of cases the Prosecution received during the last year amounted to 858 cases, in which 407 were settled.

The second paper presented by the Director of the Office of Human Rights in the province, Abdrabu Jedai, reviewed the human rights situation in Marib and crimes and violations committed by Houthi militias against civilians in the province. He pointed out activities held by the Human Rights Office in the province and the achievements and successes have been achieved since its establishment in the first quarter of
2018 .

The head of the Yemeni National Media Organization “Sada” Youssef Hazeb presented the third paper which included the challenges facing the humanitarian and relief organizations in light of the continued displacements from various Houthi-controlled areas and the influx of refugees from the countries of the Horn of Africa ,led to price hikes in real estate and other problems in the province.
