Marib Governor receives UN Resident Coordinator in Yemen

The Governor of Marib General Sultan Al-Arada received on Saturday UN resident coordinator and humanitarian coordinator in Yemen David Gressly.

Both discussed the humanitarian situation and latest developments in the governorate amid continuing offensive by Houthi coup militia, as well as opening a humanitarian hub in Marib .

Governor reaffirmed the readiness of the local authority to cooperate with the United Nations, international humanitarian organizations and all humanitarian partners, and overcome all difficulties and challenges in order to help them carry out their work.

During the meeting, the governor Al-Arada touched upon the violations and crimes committed by Houthi terrorist militia, including bombing residential areas and IDPs camps with ballistic missiles and drones, adding that Houthis have fired 27 ballistic missiles on Marib since February.

He presented a humanitarian needs matrix and the emergency response plan of the local authority for 2021 year to the UN official. Governor praised the efforts of the UN organizations and all organizations working in the humanitarian and relief field in Marib, calling all local and international organizations to double their efforts and humanitarian interventions in Marib governorate as it host over 2 million displaced people distributed in 139 camps across the governorate.

For his part, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Yemen explained that his visit to Marib aimed to closely examine the humanitarian and relief situation of IDPS in the governorate and discuss the UN interventions and ways to enhance cooperation and coordination with the governorate leadership.

He pointed out that the UN is about to complete the procedures for opening a new humanitarian hum in Marib in order to facilitate the work of its humanitarian organizations and give rapid and emergency response to the IDPs in the governorate during the coming period.
