Vice President of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Marib, Sultan Al-Arada, along with Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Saghir bin Aziz, announced on Thursday the unilateral opening of the road connecting Marib to Sana'a via the Nihm road.
During his field visit to various sites and the road connecting Marib to Sana’a, Al-Arada explained that, in coordination with political and military leadership, a security checkpoint has been established today on the (Marib - Sana’a) road. He expressed hope for the other party to reciprocate, thereby easing the movement for citizens.
In a statement during the visit, Al-Arada announced, "Today, we have set up the checkpoint at this location and are transferring control from the military to the security authorities. We stand prepared to furnish it with the necessary equipment to ensure citizens' comfort and facilitate their passage." Al-Arada emphasized the crucial need to open all roads in every city, emphasizing the significance of unlocking access to the besieged city of Taiz, enduring a nine-year siege.
This becomes an urgent necessity, particularly considering the considerable hardship faced by Yemeni citizens traveling through alternative routes. He Highlighted that this measure follows multiple government initiatives, and that this been previously deliberated with the UN envoy and various local mediators.
Al-Arada conveyed the political and military leadership's willingness to unilaterally open alternative routes such as (Marib - Al-Bayda - Sana’a) and (Marib-Sarwah-Sana’a), hoping that the other party will reciprocate this initiative, with the primary aim of easing citizens' suffering and improving their travel and mobility.
Al-Arada added, "I encourage everyone to collaborate in opening the primary roads across all Yemeni cities for the well-being of the Yemeni people. Regardless of other concerns, be it war or peace, each matter has its rightful place."
He emphasized the need to avoid bidding regarding the opening of roads for the people. "On our part, we do not see any harm resulting from citizens crossing the main roads."
