Marib Authority denounces Int'l Orgs for inaction towards besieged civilians in Abdiyah

An official source in the local authority of Marib governorate expressed strong dissatisfaction with failure of UN agencies, international organizations and International Committee of Red Cross to fulfill its humanitarian tasks and duties towards the besieged people in the Abdiya district, south of Marib governorate .

The source highlighted that about 35,000 people have been under siege, and living at risk and in difficult humanitarian conditions for more than 20 days, as basic needs are prevented from entering the district, in addition that the civilians are extremely vulnerable to hysterically missile attacks and artillery bombardment by the Houthi militia on their homes and farms. Such acts are considered war crimes and genocide.

The source said in a statement issued on Sunday that the UN organizations and the ICRC were addressed to do its humanitarian duty and provide a safe passage for the necessary humanitarian needs of food and medicine and rescue the wounded of the Houthi militia attacks on the district, the last of which was on Saturday, October 9, 2021, but, these organizations have not yet performed its required duties and responsibilities .

"While we, in the local authority of the governorate, are appealing to the United Nations, Security Council and UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, to carry out legal and ethical duties, in accordance with international legislation and treaties, towards this humanitarian suffering, we stress that urgent action is needed to provide essential needs for the besieged people in the Abdiya district and prevent a looming humanitarian catastrophe,’’ the source added.
